RECOMMENDED BOOKS Brain Body & Emotions

Finding Our Tongues:
Mothers, Infants & The Origins of Language

The Measure of Man & Woman:
Human Factors in Design

A fantastic resource for body measurements, anthropometric diagrams and human factors data. Also features a free CD-ROM which contains CAD ready figures and detailed information. However the best feature of this easy to read book are the room by room details presented from the body's perspective which enable the designer to correctly specify architectural and design detail to any space based on what works BEST for the body and brain

The Body Has a Mind of It's Own:
How Body Maps in Your Brain Help You Do (Almost) Everything Better

A fast and easy read, this book grants the reader a passport into the inner workings of a complicated computer: the human brain. Filled with tons of useful data and simple explanations, this work is a great start to understanding the world most least understood organ and the body it inhabits.

Design Innovations for Aging & Alzheimer's:

Creating Caring Environments

A great resource for anyone specializing in healthcare or assisted living design but more importantly, Betsy's book gives CAREGIVERS a place to gain real insight into environment modifications that will improve the qualilty of life for victims of this insidious disease. Even though this book is intended for the professional design community, anyone will benefit from the evidence based research Brawley offers

The Female Brain

I really enjoyed this book not only for the evidence based research and clinical data she reports but the very readable style that makes Louann's book a must read for everyone ...and especially men as it details the differences using real life stories, personal memories and case histories with eye catching appeal that will enable men to appreciate the differences and celebrate the uniqueness we all share

The Genie in Your Genes:
Epigenetic Medicine and the New Biology of Intention

This long awaited book is an eye opening journey into our genetic code and how surrounding electromagnetic forces, energies, vibrations and simple environmental conditions are directly affecting the expression or suppression of specific genes without changing the sequence of those genes... which is a major tenant of EPIGENETIC DESIGN and Lipton's original earlier work played a direct bearing on the work I do today ...thanks Bruce!!

Are Your Hormones Making You Sick?:
A Woman's Guide To Better Health Through Hormonal Balance

Written from the perspective and personal insight of a female doctor this one is a real treasure into unraveling the mystery of how and why we as women do the things we do "at a certain time of month" . This book makes the journey into female endocrinology a simple and easy read… and guess what … IT'S NOT IN YOUR HEAD AFTERALL!!!

Your Body:
A Visual User's Guide

Being a visual learner, guess what I REALLY enjoyed this book and find myself referring back several times each month because of the great images and easy to understand diagrams. My only comment, is "hey guys, work on the colors a bit more for the second edition as they differ significantly from the real body parts I observed during the several autopsies I had the privilege to attend"

Body:
The Complete Human

Another great book filled with easy to understand diagrams, detailed body shots and answers to questions dealing with often confusing medical jargon

Mind Wide Open:
Your Brain and the Neuroscience of Everyday Life

Johnson really hits the nail on the head with this one as his book forces you to THINK and consider how and why we are not messed up more than we are! A great resource for a step by step introduction into how and why the brain is interconnected to the environmental world but also how the brain can be fooled or tricked into bettering our lives without harming the brains amazing functionality

Inside the Brain:
Revolutionary Discoveries of How the Mind Works

A good look at the differences between the mind and brain and where the two cross ...hey Kotulak fills in the blanks with great insight.

Home Psych:
The Social Psychology of Home

The industry standard in defining a correlation between the need to decorate and fill ones home with functional and attractive items and the human need for establishing a safe and comfortable place to call home. Slanted from a psychologist point of view, the author puts an eye opening spin on how and why we decorate …. A good read for anyone looking to explain to their husbands why you bought what you did!

The Second Brain:
A Groundbreaking New Understanding of Nervous Disorders of the Stomach and Intestine

This one was an important book for me as it answered many questions as to how and why emotions and perceptions are directly connected to the workings of our GI tract. In other words, Gershon's book supplied the necessary scientific and medical foundation to explain why when life goes wrong and times are stressful, your stomach and bowels are the first to respond. I really recommend this one !

Hands of Life:
Your Body's Own Energy Medicine for Healing, Recovery, and Transformation

Maybe a little far out for some, but for those of us who understand how we are all interconnected on a quantum level I say YEAH!!! Finally main stream medicine and a top doc like Oprah's surgeon buddy DR.OZ befriending Motz and her beliefs and then inviting her repeatedly into the surgical suite to dramatically make a difference in the healing times and effectiveness for many patients in the NYC area...way to go Julie and if I ever need surgery, I only pray that you may attend my procedures as well!

Learn to Remember

A good book in its basic explanation of how the brain works in making, storing and retrieving memories.... now where did I put that book? No seriously, it really is a good book filled with several tips and ideas on how to combat the uncomfortable certainty of getting older; a 'not so sharp' memory.

Inside Your Brain

Many of you are familiar with Eric's work with providing the well received NEUROSCIENCE NEWSLETTER for KIDS, and his book dealing with the brain's inner workings is in the same vein: written in a straightforward simple style it offers easy to understand photographs, diagrams and details that enhance your overall understanding of the most amazing organ we often ignore. If you can only purchase one book to begin your journey into the connection between the body brain and the surrounding environment this one is it...enjoy!

The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers

Symbolic Visualization:
A Method of Psychosinthesis

Winter Blues:
Seasonal Affective Disorder: What It Is and How to Overcome It

Dealing with ( SAD) seasonal affect disorder for years, I've come to understand this energy draining affliction as a personal challenge between mother nature and me… so far I'm winning! And the understanding of how and why light and seasonal changes affect my brain and other bodily functions, I can honestly say that I now shine.. thanks Norman!

The Great Book of Optical Illusions

Biology for Dummies

Heartbreak and Heart Disease:
A Mind/Body Prescription for Healing the Heart

An Illustrated Adventure in Human Anatomy

Atlas of Functional Neuroanatomy

Cure Unknown:
Inside the Lyme Epidemic

Secrets of Serotonin:
The Natural Hormone That Curbs Food and Alcohol Cravings, Reduces Pain, and Elevates Your Mood

Scentsational Sex:
The Secret to Using Aroma for Arousal

My friend Alan does it again... another easy to read book with cutting edge science and medical research that teaches the reader how to use their own body and brain to its maximum potential. Hey Alan I tried some of your evidence based tips and.... they work!
